In 2004, JRA Architects, Inc. was selected by Integral Properties to design the revitalization of the Peabody Apartments Public Housing Complex in Columbus, Georgia. The Hope VI project was funded through Boston Capital, Bradley-Turner Foundation, Capmark Finance, Federal Housing Administration, The Housing Authority of Columbus Georgia, The Integral Group and The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. JRA Architects, Inc. was instrumental in the master planning for the site and design of multiple building types for Market Rate units, Authority Assisted units and Tax Credit units. The revitalization included demolition of the existing project housing and a total redesign of the 12 acres with new city streets and a wide landscaped boulevard. Designed in two phases, Phase I was completed in 11 months and included 184 apartment units, both townhomes and multi-story garden style apartments, a community leasing office with swimming pool, laundry facility, gazebos, recreation areas, furnished playgrounds, picnic/barbecue areas, fitness center, and furnished library and landscaping. The new neighborhood was designed to a "new urbanism", putting eyes on the street. Phase II, under construction in 2007 includes 183 apartments, one of which is a four story, 63-unit senior building, a computer café, gazebo, tot lots, etc. All buildings are wood construction, with brick, stone and siding veneers, with balconies and patios, specialty street lighting and signage throughout the property.
